Do your find yourself saying looking forward to a daily glass of wine? Does that glass often lead to another? And sometimes even another?
Read MoreI went to a lecture last weekend called "Letting In While Letting Go". The topic was referring to grief and that while we are letting go of our loss, there is also now more room to let something in that may bring us comfort and joy.
The speaker talked about the Both/And concept:
I can be both sad about ________ and happy about ________.
Admit it women: we have a thing about being too much or not enough.
We fall into the trap of telling ourselves we’re too pudgy or too emotional; we’re not smart enough or motivated enough. We are really good at stressing ourselves out! And the more stressed we feel, the more we turn to food for comfort.
Read MoreAre you a self-declared Superwoman flying from one “need-to-check-the-box” goal to another throughout your day? Do you feel like your work is never done? But, when you become depleted, instead of taking time to recharge with rest, relaxation or fun, you keep going and going and getting more stressed along the way? And, the more stressed you feel, the more you turn to food — that universal quick-fix — for comfort. You are not alone.
Read MoreAre you sick of making New Years Resolutions that only REMOVE things from your diet or life in general?
This year, give yourself a break and put a positive spin on those resolutions. Rather than removing things from your life, try ADDING in more lusciousness and the things that will really nourish your body and soul. You might actually stick with them!

No, it wasn't too much alcohol and it wasn't too much sugar...
Read MoreHere it comes — that stretch of holiday festivities that bring endless opportunities to overindulge. While it ’tis the season to be jolly, everywhere you turn you come face-to-face with all those tempting holiday foods. Are you worried that the constant exposure to goodies will start to weigh on your willpower like so many choruses of “The 12 Days of Christmas?”
Read MoreThe holidays bring with them an abundance of festivities centered around eating and drinking. And, not to play Scrooge, but much of our favorite holiday fare sits atop the list of those opiate-like "trigger foods." These foods fall in the "naughty" category because they set off chemicals in the brain that make us want to gorge ourselves -- like sugar, alcohol, cheese and refined carbohydrates (think breads and cookies). They trigger an eat-fest in your brain that can pack on unwanted pounds.
Read MoreI have a theory. I think that many women think about food the way men think about sex.
We have all seen those studies where they say that men think about sex every seven seconds or thousands of times per day. Yes, many women think about sex a lot too, but many women think about food even more. Some women even think about food while having sex. Why is this happening?
My guess is that somewhere along the way, our wires got crossed, and food became our go-to, easy-to-get, always-available form of pleasure.
Read MoreGrowing up, I always thought spirituality was something found in an Indian ashram or in a new age crystal shop.
As a Jewish girl from Long Island, spirituality was simply not in my day- to-day vocabulary. I went to Hebrew school and to temple for holidays, but I counted the minutes until I could escape.
Religion, to me, was all about things you couldn’t do or shouldn’t eat. It didn’t bother me that I wasn’t a spiritual person. Truthfully, it wasn’t something that I had ever even thought much about.
Read MoreI went for a walk with a friend today. She is in a transitional period in her life and needed to brainstorm, share, connect, and ponder.
We talked about the importance of boundaries in our life and particularly in our work.
I just spent a very fun weekend in Las Vegas with a group of friends. Though Britney Spears was on vacation from her nightly Vegas concert, we did get to see another great show call Zumanity! I tried to eat healthy and keep to my workout regimen while I was there, BUT by the end of the weekend I couldn't help but OVER-INDULGE!
Yes, it still happens to me and I pay the price in a big way in terms of weight gain, bloating, and fatigue BUT I keep in mind that I did have FUN. Lots of fun. Having good times with friends, jumping out of your comfort zone, and shaking up your routine is not only fun but it is HEALTHY too!
Read MoreIn my continued efforts to better understand my own body and behavior, I often turn to the animal kingdom.
I look for insight into our human drives, instincts, and habits, and then can better understand what the animal in me is supposed to be doing rather than what I have been told to do or have learned to do from other humans.
Read MoreI am turning 52 this week and I am still a work in progress in the body image journey. Yes, as much as I try, I still see the supposed flaws. How about you?
This is why I decided to create a day to talk about it, work on it, and deal with it and I want to share that day with YOU!

Read MoreWe live in an age of distraction and focusing our attention is harder than ever. Not a day goes by when we are not told how important it is to really listen to others but we are seldom reminded how important it is to listen to ourselves as well.
Read MoreDo you ever look back at a photo and think "Wow, I looked so much better back then?" even though at the time, you didn't think you looked that great? Well that is how I feel right now when I look at this picture. It was taken this past October right before the pie overload on Thanksgiving, the daily cocktails in Miami, and the chocolate chip cookie overdose on New Years Eve.
Read MoreIt's been a rough few months for me. My husband's dad died. Then my dog died. Then my dad died. And then my husband broke his back. Yup. All since October.
I am not telling you this to gain sympathy.
I am telling you this because I know, personally, how hard it is sometimes to keep focused on self-care when our world is falling apart and we are busy taking care of all of those around us.
Read MoreThanksgiving was a tough one for my family this year. Our dog was put to sleep a couple of nights before. My father-in-law passed away last month. My father has terminal cancer. And the list goes on from there. Sounds like I had more than enough justification to consume an entire pecan pie along with the stuffing and marshmallow-smothered sweet potatoes. In the past, I probably would have done just that. I would have let myself get caught up in the "woe is me -- I so deserve to comfort myself with anything and everything" and I would have fallen into a downward spiral of sugar and despair. But I didn't do that this time.
